Located just a few meters away from the Basilica, the Manaoag Hotel has been in the heart of the town, providing a comfortable stay for its guests since its establishment by the Dalope family in 1980. It stood witness to some of the pivotal moments in the history of a quaint and charming town like Manaoag. For decades it was the only hotel in the area that offered ease and convenience for both local and foreign guests.
In 2014, the Manaoag Hotel has taken on a new path after its acquisition by the Hilomen family. It was the first step in the fulfillment of a lifelong dream of the family’s patriarch, Mr. Samson Hilomen.
As a young college student working as a hotel bellboy in Marbel, South Cotabato, Sam created a vision for himself in 1964. He yearned to go back to his roots in Pangasinan and dreamed of owning a cozy, welcoming, and personal place to stay for everyone.
In 1968, he eventually returned home, and with sheer determination coupled with hard work, found success as a businessman in the agricultural sector. Decades later and now with a family spanning 3 generations, Manong Sam or T’yo Sam, as he is fondly called, never forgot his teenage dream.
Fascinated and inspired by his travels around the world, he never forgot the finest traditions of Filipino hospitality which gave birth to a one of a kind and exciting vision for Manaoag Hotel. With a passion to reach new heights, this vision was later drawn into blueprints and turned into reality.
Expansion and renovations began in 2017, but with the unprecedented emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the construction of the hotel experienced setbacks. Unfortunately, Mr. Hilomen passed away in August 2021 and never got to see the finished hotel. In honor of his legacy, it has now become the family’s mission to continue what their father started and fulfill his dream.
Unique in itself, the owners have taken great care to preserve the design, structure and historic charm of the Old Manaoag Hotel while providing a thoughtful modern focus and contemporary touch to the space. All rooms are newly & fully furnished with a blend of local and artisan craftsmanship, carefully designed interiors and distinctive wood accents with an understated elegance and the ambiance of Scandinavian modernity.
The hotel continues to reflect the simple charm of Manaoag, the culture of its residents, the influences of its owners and its guests, and treads on a new path to provide excellent service and a wonderful experience for everyone. Whether for business, pleasure, or pilgrimage, The Manaoag Hotel is the ideal place to stay – Your sanctuary in the heart of Manaoag.
Well-known as a popular pilgrimage destination, the town of Manaoag, Pangasnan is the home of the Nuestra Señora del Santisimo Rosario de Manaoag (Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag). According to local lore, Manaoag got its name from a story about the appearance of the Blessed Virgin Mary to a farmer on a treetop and her message for a shrine to be built in her honor so that her followers may ask for her maternal protection and seek her divine intercession in their time of need.
She was then referred to by locals as the “Birhen ya mantataoag”, which means the Virgin who calls. Eventually, the town was known by its shortened form, “Manaoag”. Because of the centuries-long history of miracles and blessings attributed to her, the shrine has had a steady stream of pilgrims visiting her through the years. In 2014, the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag was declared as a Minor Basilica by His Holiness Pope Francis.
